"Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It's the courage to continue that counts."

— Winston Churchill

Hello! Welcome to another warm summer week. The good news is that the weather has been dry, the bad news is that the heat is here. The tent has still been comfortable enough, we run the coolers for an hour or two before we open and the whole thing seems to get a lot of airflow too. I do think that we are on track to get into the Game room in early July, that is when it really gets hot and patience starts to wane. We are in the process now of evaluating what service will look like when we reopen. Do we keep the same schedule we have now or do we extend dinner to every night? What about Lunch? What happens to the Social? These are all things that were discussed in the Food Committee last week. We will be making decisions soon and will have final answers by the food and Beverage Forum on June 27th.

The bees are thriving buy the way, we are now up to six hives as we had a swarm last week, and everyone seems to be doing ok. We still have a couple of gallons of honey from last year's harvest and I feel pretty good about this year unless something happens. I will begin testing for mites soon, that is the real checkup to watch but the last couple of years we have had good luck. The Mites, called Varroa Destructor by science are nasty little creatures that parasitize honeybees. They are not specifically fatal but their numbers can build up to a point that the hive cannot function. They are endemic to bees, and always present but can be controlled by monitoring and treatment.

Next week on the menu we have quite a few traditional favorites including Pot Roast, Barbecued Chicken, Beef Short Ribs, Chicken Parmesan, Shrimp scampi and more. Father's Day is next Sunday as well.

We have been doing the last couple of Sundays as one seating which has been working pretty well but several people have told us that they were bringing guests on Father's day and so we decided to go with the two seatings at 11 and 12:30 to make sure that there was plenty of room. We are trying to make the most of our space and the time constraints that we have, but I want to start offering scrambled eggs as a start to see how it goes. Barbecued ribs are never a bad idea and of course between the frittatas, the pancakes, the blintzes and steaks I think it will be really nice. Beer is free of course whether you are a father or not and we have lots of champagne as well.

On Tuesday we are serving Various Dim Sum with Fried rice and seaweed salad. As always on Tuesdays and Thursdays seating is open, and you don't need a reservation. So far resident seem really happy with The Social overall, and the staff really seem to like it too. On Thursday we will be serving Tamales with tortilla chips Guacamole and Salsa.

For events this week we have Coffee and Conversation on Monday, Quarterly Birthday celebration on Tuesday, the Neighborhood dog walk on Friday and of course the Saturday Matinee has been very popular.

I look forward to seeing you all at Culinary Corner on Monday in the Art Room at 10 am.
